John Jess was that rare Australian politician brave enough to stand up to his own party. He demanded justice for the seamen injured or killed in the collision of two RAN vessels — HMAS Voyager and HMAS Melbourne. We were lucky enough to be supplied with a sensitive pencil sketch of Jess, which we combined with two images of the tragic incident.
